Modified distorted Born iterative method with an approximate Fréchet derivative for optical diffusion tomography

چکیده
In frequency-domain optical diffusion imaging, the magnitude and the phase of modulated light propagated through a highly scattering medium are used to reconstruct an image of the scattering and absorption coefficients in the medium. Although current reconstruction algorithms have been applied with some success, there are opportunities for improving both the accuracy of the reconstructions and the speed of convergence. In particular, conventional integral equation approaches such as the Born iterative method and the distorted Born iterative method can suffer from slow convergence, especially for large spatial variations in the constitutive parameters. We show that slow convergence of conventional algorithms is due to the linearized integral equations’ not being the correct Fréchet derivative with respect to the absorption and scattering coefficients. The correct Fréchet derivative operator is derived here. However, the Fréchet derivative suffers from numerical instability because it involves gradients of both the Green’s function and the optical flux near singularities, a result of the use of near-field imaging data. To ameliorate these effects we derive an approximation to the Fréchet derivative and implement it in an inversion algorithm. Simulation results show that this inversion algorithm outperforms conventional iterative methods. © 1999 Optical Society of America [S0740-3232(99)02907-5] OCIS codes: 100.3010, 100.3190, 100.6950, 170.3010, 290.3200.

Solution to the Inverse Scattering Problem Using a Modified Distorted Born Iterative Algorithm
We present a new distorted Born iterative algorithm for diiraction tomography which introduces kernel distortions only at carefully selected pixel locations. This algorithm attains the performance levels achieved by existing distorted Born iterative techniques , while maintaining the robustness of the Born iterative technique, especially in noisy situations. In addition , the algorithm has lowe...
متن کاملFréchet derivative with respect to the shape of a strongly convex nonscattering region in optical tomography
The aim of optical tomography is to reconstruct the optical properties inside a physical body, e.g. a neonatal head, by illuminating it with near-infrared light and measuring the outward flux of photons on the object boundary. Because a brain consists of strongly scattering tissue with imbedded cavities filled by weakly scattering cerebrospinal fluid, propagation of near-infrared photons in the...

Introduction Fractional differential equations (FDEs) have attracted much attention and have been widely used in the fields of finance, physics, image processing, and biology, etc. It is not always possible to find an analytical solution for such equations. The approximate solution or numerical scheme may be a good approach, particularly, the schemes in numerical linear algebra for solving ...

Introduction: Iterative reconstruction techniques provide better image quality and have the potential for reconstructions with lower imaging dose than classical methods in computed tomography (CT). However, the computational speed is major concern for these iterative techniques. The system matrix calculation during the forward- and back projection is one of the most time- cons...

Because optical diffusion imaging is a highly nonlinear inverse problem, iterative inversion algorithms based on the Born approximation have usually been employed as reconstruction technique, but convergence is slow, especially for high contrast parameter distributions. We show here that the slow convergence of the conventional algorithms is due to the linear integral operator derived by the Bo...
